Conservative and Restorative Dentistry (Fillings, Inlays, Onlays, Crowns)
As much as we try and prevent oral health issues, conditions are diagnosed and need to be treated. This could leave you in a position where you need to conserve or restore parts of your teeth.
We are able to provide various options, such as filings, inlays, onlays and crowns, to our patients to ensure they can be confident of their smile again.
Filings restore teeth to their original function and shape after the damage of decay. A filing also helps to prevent further decay by closing off the gap so that no new bacteria can enter.
What are Dental Inlays and Onlays?
If the tooth is too damaged to sustain a filing, our dentists will recommend an inlay or onlay. An inlay repairs the cusps or rounded edges in the centre of the tooth whereas an outlay repairs more than one cusp or the entire biting surface area of the tooth. Inlays and onlays are more durable than fillings as they reconstruct a larger area of the tooth.
The Benefits of a Dental Crown
Crowns are a fixed prosthetic aid and completely covers the damaged tooth to create strength as well as better its appearance, shape and alignment. This option is used to protect a fractured tooth or prevent a tooth from fracturing, as well as to cover a tooth that has had a root canal, among other issues.
Although all these options are used to restore teeth to their original form, these options also conserve the rest of the mouth as decay can easily spread to other teeth or can even be given to others through the transmission of bacteria via utensils, kissing or shared food. The structural integrity of one tooth also affects surrounding teeth as incorrect alignment or the decreased strength of teeth can lead to the damage of others.
